According to the guide, the first thing that kayakers need to do when preparing for their next kayak camping trip is thoroughly plan out their itinerary. This involves selecting an accessible and available destination and mapping a route to get there, but it also means checking weather forecasts and water conditions, researching amenities, and learning local rules and regulations.

Once the itinerary has been finalized, kayakers can start assembling their kayaking and camping equipment. For the kayaking portion of the trip, Kayaking Nation recommends a kayak that is stable but easy to maneuver with a lot of storage space and a high weight capacity. Additionally, it recommended lightweight paddles that are comfortable in the hand.

The equipment needed for the camping portion of the trip will vary depending on when and where the kayakers are staying, but some essential items they should have at all times are a multi-purpose tent, a sleeping bag and pad, a waterproof lamp or flashlight, food rations, and dry clothes. Safety gear like a life jacket, first-aid kit, GPS or compass, and whistle are also crucial.

Before embarking on a kayak camping trip, Kayaking Nation encourages kayakers to brush up on their paddling techniques by going out on a few practice paddles. Similarly, practicing camping (without kayaking) can prepare them for some of the challenges they might encounter on the real trip. To minimize the environmental impact of a kayak camping trip, kayakers are advised to follow the "leave no trace" principles.

“Kayak camping is a unique and exciting way to experience the great outdoors,” said a spokesperson for the website. “Combining the thrill of kayaking with the peacefulness of camping, it offers a chance to explore remote areas that are otherwise inaccessible. Whether you’re a seasoned kayaker or a complete beginner, our guide will help you prepare for your next adventure on the water.”

Kayaking Nation is a one-stop resource providing coaching tips and product reviews for kayakers of all skill levels.
