Safe4Care, a Danish manufacturer of anti-decubitus, pressure relieving mattresses, has announced an update to its visco-elastic foams for the healthcare market.

The foams are now available in various densities, ranging from 45 to 150 kg/m³, allowing healthcare professionals to choose the most appropriate product for their patients' needs. Safe4Care’s products combine visco-elastic SAF foam with high-resilience (HR) foam to provide pressure relief and comfort. The makeup of the visco-elastic foams also facilitates easy handling and cleaning in high-demand healthcare environments.

“Visco-elastic foam covers a variety of foams with very different qualities, ranging from inexpensive, simple, and slowly responding foams to expensive, sophisticated foams with specific properties,” said a spokesperson for the company. “We have chosen to only work with high-quality foams, which possess the specific properties essential for use in nursing environments.”

Safe4Care offers Air-2, Air-3, and Simplex options for its visco-elastic foams. AIR-2 incorporates open-celled air foam to secure heat and transport moisture away from the mattress core. The foam features a reversible design, with a pressure-distributing side and a standard foam side, allowing users to alternate between the two functions by simply flipping it over.

For better airflow and lower moisture concentration, individuals can opt for the Simplex foams. They use 3 cm of pink SAF at the top and a base layer consisting of 9 cm of high-quality 38 kg HR foam that provides a support surface with sufficient pressure-relieving capabilities.

All the visco-elastic foams in the company’s range can be washed at high temperatures of up to 95° C and air-dried or autoclaved, allowing for efficient cleaning and reuse in demanding hospital and nursing home environments. They also come with a Safe4Care-FLEX cover that can be cleaned with common disinfectants.
