Good Housekeeping, TeenVogue and others are calling "blorange" the hair color of 2017.

Los Angeles hair color specialist Zaine said that's a bit too much. He pointed out it is just the end of January, which means there are 11 more months to go. During those months, plenty of trendsetting celebrities will experiment with other colors.

"Blorange is just a light shade of red, a combination of red and blonde. It looks wonderful on some people and perfectly dreadful on other people," he said. "If you like the color and you look good with similar shades, then certainly try it. If you don't look good in shades that are close, then do not try it."

Hair color needs to match a person's style and personality, he said, especially if it is a permanent color.

"I personally don't see why so many people are hyping this 'blorange' color. We have an amazing palette of colors to choose from and so many different shades. Why fixate on one color? And who said 'blorange' has to the color of the year anyway?" Zaine said. "But, if you like that shade, then use it."

With 11 months left in the year, Zaine said it's anyone's guess as to what will be the most popular color even by spring. He maintains the only rule of hair color that matters is what looks good on the person.

"If you want to make a statement with lime green hair, then you do you. It is your hair. You have the right to color it however you want," he said. "A professional colorist can make recommendations and it's a good idea to listen to them. But the final decision has to be yours."

Zaine said if someone is interested in trying different hair colors and has never done it, then 2017 is the year to experiment. Hair color can be changed, he said.

"That is what the colors are for. If you don't like it, change it," he said.
